June 8, 2019

Tonight I was sitting here thinking I should write a blogpost to document our last week of school and first week of summer.  But I don’t want to.  Because while there has been some fun there has also been a lot of worry and fighting and frustration and negativity.  So rather than write a post and try to be happy about something that I am not, I decided to write about something that I was happy about.  And that is our trip last summer to the Lincoln City and the Oregon Coast.  Last year I booked a crappy, rundown hotel on Groupon for really cheap. The only thing our hotel had going for it was that it was right across the street from the ocean. We headed to the coast the weekend right after school got out.  It literally poured rain on us the entire way there. I was worried.  We got in fairly late in the evening. Went to bed and woke up to sunny weather.  We could not have asked for better weather for the coast!

We spent the next three days having a great time as a family. We found tide pools.  Which we loved.  I could have spent hours exploring them. We walked the beaches.  We went to and awesome glass blowing demonstration at a little cabin in the woods in the middle of nowhere.  We were literally the only ones there so we were able to watch the glass blower work and ask him all sorts of questions.  It was awesome! We drive to Depot Bay where I saw a whale for the first time! It was incredible! And we got some salt water taffy from “Ainslee’s”. We watched the sunset into the ocean. We ate delicious fish tacos and sea food.  We drove to Newport where we flew kites and played on the beach and in the ocean. We visited a light house and an incredible cobblestone beach. I embarrassed my family twice when I made them leave restaurants that I didn’t want to eat at after we had already walked in, once after we had already been seated. They love it when I do that. I felt like we did so much.  And we were so lucky to have sunshine the whole time we were there. On the morning we had to leave we woke up early and went to look at the tide pools one more time. On our way back to the hotel it started to drizzle and then it rained on us as we drove out of town.

It was definitely a quick little family trip that we’ll always remember.  I think I’m ready for another family vacation....
