Memories

And now for a walk down memory lane. We will be visiting memories dealing with sports while I was attending the BYU.

#1 My freshman year at BYU I took a volleyball PE class with my cousin Tifani. Intermediate volleyball mind you. Towards the end of the semester we were sitting in class and decided that we wanted to skip it. I don't think we realized that we were in college and could have just walked out and no one would have given it much thought. Instead, we felt the need to sneak out of class so as not to get caught. So we waited for what we thought was an opportune moment to sneak out of a back door to the gym. When the moment finally came we quickly opened the door and snuck out. It was then that we took a moment to look at our surroundings. We were on the far side of the RB, (for those familiar with BYU) the side that backs the hill. We were standing on a little pad of cement, in our BYU issue shorts and t-shirts, surrounded by several inches of snow. We had to then make our way around the building, freezing, with no sidewalks to walk on, and all for the sake of saving our pride. I'm pretty sure that by the time we made it back to the locker room, not only were we freezing cold, but the rest of our class was most likely already dressed and on their way. Ahhh, freshman.

#2 Speaking of PE........My sophomore or junior year of college I decided to take a badminton class. I thought it would be funny, relaxing, and an easy A. The first day of class my teacher mentioned that he was an Olympian (can't remember if it was in badminton or not :) and very interested in health. I soon realized that this class wasn't going to be an easy one. We had to do training activities. I specifically remember walking over to the track as a class and running. For badminton!!!! He was very intense. And to make it worse, I stink at badminton. I was always on the losing team. And it was usually my fault I was on the losing team. I tried to make light of it, but no one thought I was very funny. Which was shocking to me, because I am very funny. I can't remember if I got an A in that class, but I probably did, since I was as awesome then as I am now.

#3 About the time that I was in my volleyball class, my cousin and I were also very into the men's volleyball team. They were awesome. The star of the team that year even went on to play in the Olympics. And the whole time I watched him play in the Olympics all I could think of was the time I witnessed him being pantsed (Seeing that word written makes me wonder if I've been saying it wrong my entire life) during a time-out of a huge game. We saw his bum. It was crazy. Also, Tifani and I had crushes on a couple of the players (not the one that got pantsed....seriously, how do you spell that word?) and so to be cool and not too stalker like we would run through the neighborhood that we heard they lived in. You know, just so we could casually bump into them and be like, "Hey, you guys are great volleyball players. Want to get together for a game sometime. We totally aced our intermediate volleyball class."

#4 One time I was running on the indoor track in the Smith Field House. FYI, there was a short track and a long track. Usually there were gates pulled down that closed off the long track and so I would usually just run on the short track. This particular day was no different. I was minding my own business running on the short track, when all of a sudden the gates FLEW open and the entire BYU football team (to clarify, I'm not sure if it was the entire team, but there were a lot of them!) was suddenly surrounding me, in full gear. In a matter of seconds I was surrounded and hoisted on their shoulders. Okay, so I wasn't hoisted on their shoulders but I was surrounded. And they were loud, and big, and intimidating in full gear. I just kept running and we probably ran about a half a lap together. It was terrifying and cool all at the same time. I hope it was as memorable for them as it was for me.

And there you have it, 4 completely random memories that I thought about the other night while laying awake in bed.

Good News, Bad News

The good news is that my sister in law, Paige, found some floor storage in our van that we didn't even know we had! (Ours is currently still empty, but if we were cool, it would look like this........) Unfortunately the bad news list is longer. The first bad news is that not only did I get a cold sore last week (which I hate because they are ugly, disgusting, and hurt.) Then I twisted my ankle. I was carrying Emmie into the garage and stepped down onto a shoe that I didn't see on the floor. I rolled my ankle and fell all the way to the cement floor. I'm an amazing mother though because Emmie remained unscathed. The other bad news is that because of the awkward sleeping positions I was in for several nights I threw out my back. Sunday morning I woke up not being able to move at all. It was a bad day. Picture the scabby nasty cold sore on my lip, a swollen ankle, and being practically immobile while trying to do sharing time. After a few days of visiting with the chiropractor, and letting my foot heal, I'm finally almost better. I still have to move cautiously, but I'm not in constant pain. And then bad news struck again!!!!I found 2 weevil on the floor of my pantry today! Will there be no end to the bad news?! The weird thing is that I found 2 weevil in the bottom of a canister of oats a few months ago. After freaking out, I cleaned out the entire pantry and found 1 more weevil, but none in food. I thought I had taken care of the problem. And then today I find a weevil skin AND a LIVE weevil. I'm still freaked out. But I did the same thing again. I sifted through tons of food. Threw out any food that had been sitting in the pantry for a while. But I still couldn't find a single but in any of my food. I'm to the point where I think I just have to let it go. I would definitely sleep better at night if I could find the source of the weevil though! I guess at least my pantry is spotless right now. Wish I could say the same for the rest of my house...........

Spring Break

I'm finally getting around to posting about our spring break get away. Because we're weird, we decided that instead of heading for sunshine we'd go somewhere where the snow was still piled up 12 feet tall (I'm not kidding)! We actually got invited to go to a cabin with some friends in our ward. We have a new rule that we will only be friends with people who have cabins available for use in their family. Totally kidding. But it is a weird coincidence that we were invited to friends family cabins twice in a 2 month period. It left us wondering why our parents won't bite the bullet and buy cabins in remote locations for us to use? But enough of my rambling, I'll tell you a bit about our trip.

We went to Island Park. I had never been there before, but it was really pretty and a lot of fun.
We got to do some snowmobiling (which I had never done before.) Not to brag or anything, but I'm pretty amazing on a snowmobile...and by amazing I mean I can go a reasonable speed and keep the machine upright). Since there just happened to be 3 snowmobiles, and 3 couples, and because one couple had kids old enough to babysit, we got to go out for a couple hours one night for a ride without any kids! Sore! We were in search of moose. No moose were found. But we did end up at this pretty spot on the river.

I think snowmobiling was the highlight for the kids and I (maybe not John, he got sick from the exhaust and was a little cranky about the excessive snowmobile rides.)
The kids also had fun digging out snow caves in the back yard...
And the sledding was fun too.
It was a nice 4 days away from home full of fun and relaxation!

Cuties

FYI: She's doing that on purpose.

New Tricks

Emmie has several new tricks. And, basically they're adorable. She can show you where her eye is, and say eye. She can show you where her ear is.
She can do a cute pouty cry. And her hair is long enough for little pig tails. (Technically neither of those are a trick, but it's cute.)
She can show you where her teeth are and say teeth.
And she can show you her tummy and say my favorite word of hers, "tubby". I love it when she points to her stomach and says "tubby!" in her little voice.

She can also point out her feet, hair, and mouth. She's pretty much a brainchild.

Emmie has also suddenly started talking. I swear 3 weeks ago she had 5 words and now she has like 20. The ones we hear the most (or that I can think of right now) are......

baby

tubby

Owen

Ainsley

Emmie

Mamma

Dadda

Cheese

Thank You

Nigh Night

na na (banana)

eye's

teeth

num num

uh, oh (she always says this innocently when she's into trouble. For example, I'll walk into my bathroom and she'll have gel all over the ground and she'll look at me with a confused look on her face and say, "uh, oh?" Like she has no idea how it happened.)

and last but not least........

naughty

Yes, Emmie says naughty. And it's always when she's tattling on someone. So she always says it while crying and pointing at someone else. Nice.
