Bedtime

We are in a vicious cycle where Ainsley's bed time is concerned. It led to some hilarious antics on her part last night. Ainsley needs a good 12 hours of sleep to be happy all day long. When we turned the clocks forward we let Ainsley start having a little later bed time. It was lighter and it seems like there is stuff going on later in the summer and it's easier just to let her stay up later. For a while things were going great. She was staying up later and sleeping in, which I loved. Then I'm not quite sure what happened. I don't know if it was because she was sick for a few days a while ago or what, but now we are in bad sleeping mode. She started waking up earlier, around 7 or 7:30. (I know I shouldn't complain that that is earlier). Then around 2:00 or so in the afternoon she would be grouchy, get mad at me for some reason, and say she was going to bed. I would go in her room a while later to find her fast asleep and very difficult to awaken.

Yesterday at 2:00 she told me that she was done playing and wanted to take a nap. I was in the shower (it was cleaning day in my defense) so I said I don't care what you do. A while later I checked on her and sure enough, she was asleep. The break was nice though so I figured a short nap wouldn't hurt. I went to wake her up again a while later and finally bribed her out of bed with a pudding snack. She will do almost anything for pudding. Things were fine until about 8:30 last night when bedtime rolled around. She went to bed fine but was finding the most ridiculous things to get up for. She came out for the usuals, bathroom, get a drink, and then she had to get a little more creative. She made me come in her room because she had too many babies on her bed and needed me to move one, the wrong song was playing on her CD, there were 2 monsters playing in our backyard (a brown one and one with white over him for those of you who were wondering). And the best excuse yet...her bed was not soft enough. I got the final complaint around 10:00 as I was starting to get ready for bed. I sat her down on my bed and told her that her bed was softer than mine, she does have a pillow top after all. She said I was wrong because my bed had flowers and hers had buttons. Then in her last ditch attempt she started talking about dad's books, I was informed that he has a lot and can get books at the DI. With that I sent her to bed and luckily that was the last I heard from her. She did however still wake up at 7:30. No nap for her today.

So close...yet so far away!

Owen will soon be crawling, I hope. He is to the point where he wants to move and is getting more and more creative about how to get what he wants. He will rock back and forth if we put him on his hands and knees but before too long he is on his stomach. His current mode of getting closer to toys is (starting in sitting position) reaching really far, gracefully sliding on to his stomach ( it really is quite graceful) then he maneuvers back and forth until he can reach whatever it his he wants, then he rolls to his back so he'll be more comfortable. I'm definitely ready for him to crawl, hopefully we're there with in the next month.

Conference

Conference time is here and in our house that means homemade rolls, cinnamon rolls, and a big turkey dinner. For some reason my dad requested this meal during conference years ago and the tradition stuck in my family. When I married John he decided that this was a great tradition because he got a big dinner and cinnamon rolls...so the tradition continues. Last night Kortney and her friend Teresa came over to get the baking done. We had 6 kids here and still got everything made. We ate a ton of cinnamon rolls last night and Kortney took hers, and we were left with what is pictured above. I've eaten so many I feel sick. Ainsley refused to have cinnamon rolls for breakfast because they aren't healthy. So she had rice krispies with strawberries. She also probably isn't feeling sick right now. Later today we are going to Kortney's house for our dinner of Cornish hens (practically a turkey).

I just took the last picture of Owen because he looked so extremely bored as we were eating breakfast this morning.

Also just as a side note. I bet that there are at least 2 Dingers that are on the internet and read this during conference today.

Easter Dilemma

Another post about children's clothing. I'm not sure what my problem is but for some reason I am having a very difficult time with the whole Easter dress thing this year. Usually (by usually I mean the other 3 Easters that Ains was alive) I find Ainsley's Easter dress early in the season and it's one I really like. This year Easter dress shopping has turned into a huge hassle. It hasn't helped that this is the first year that Ainsley has had an opinion on her clothing, or that we found her some cute shoes with pink on them, because now we were looking for a dress to match the shoes.Today Ains and I went shopping, between sessions of course, for her dress. I had already found the skirt and shirt, and had shopped around town, so today it was time for the mall. After several stores and 2 purchases later we were home. We finally decided on the dress on the right. Now I have a ton of returning to do. I purchased the other dress, skirt, and shirt at 3 different stores. Owen's shopping was so easy. John and I found him a shirt a few weeks ago on clearance that I thought was cute. He already had pants, so with that his shopping was done. I'm not sure if I make things difficult for myself, or if shopping for girls is really that complex.

Holes

Ainsley currently owns one pair of pants that don't have a hole or a patch. I don't know what it is that she does, but whatever it is, it causes a hole in her left knee. I have patched one pair of her jeans, but I just didn't bother or didn't catch the holes in time in her other pants. I am very angry that this has been happening. I bought her clothes big this year on purpose so that they would last her another year. So I have had to put up with clothes that were too big on her and now they are all falling apart. I even got higher quality pants, not that I spent more, I just got them on sale at places like Gap or Osh Kosh. (I have to admit that I am an amazing sale shopper...the above Gap jeans...$7. I know you are all amazed.)

This year she has worn out her first set of clothes. Shirts are also stained and worn. I thought that as she got bigger her clothes would last her longer because she wouldn't outgrow them every season. Now I guess she'll just wear them out faster. We really need summer to get here because I'm not about to go out and buy her new winter clothes.

Fish Sitting

My parents and sister are in Mexico this week. They have 2 fish. Therefore we get a fish for the week and my sister's family gets to take care of the other fish. We have to feed the fish 4 little pellets morning and night. Ainsley really likes to feed the fish. We sit there captivated waiting for the fish (I'm not sure what his/her name is) to eat his food. It will be very sad when our little visitor goes back home. Actually not really, there is a reason we don't have a family pet.
